History/Society, Germany 2018

Historical drama about the fate of a German-Iranian family who felt the consequences of the “Islamic Revolution” at the end of the 1970s: Beate (Katrin Röver) is a chemist and lives with her husband Omid (Reza Brojerdi) and their daughter Sarah (Luzie Nadjafi) in the GDR. In Omid's homeland, Iran, the "Islamic Revolution" is raging, its leader - Ruholla Khomeini - promises the people better living conditions and prosperity. When Khomeini's seizure of power spreads through the news, Omid is cheering and informs his wife that he can finally return home. She wants to keep her promise and is struggling to restart her family in Iran. Once there, the initial mood of optimism evaporates quickly, because their family back home has to learn to cope with everyday arbitrariness, violence and new religious doctrines. This is the story of how Beate, Omid and little Sarah cope with their new life.
