Cornfields have nothing in common with real nature. That's what most people think. They are merely areas on which food is grown. But this superficial view is deceptive. With spectacular images, "The Cornfield - Jungle for a Summer" takes the viewer into a little-noticed habitat on our doorstep. Yet a third of Germany's land is used for grain cultivation. The documentary accompanies a field hamster family through an adventurous year in the cornfield and presents the strategies of animals and plants in exciting and amusing stories when it comes to colonising a bare field in spring. In the end, everyone has to come to terms with each other.
